Always the Sun

Dear readers,

once again Miss Melanie set me a rather long weekend task. But instead of having me writing boring lines she wanted me to copy out the (German) Wikipedia article about the sun. Should be something around 8.000 words.

She told me that on Friday evening so I better started writing because I had no idea how long it would take me. I never did that much copying before.

At this point it was midnight so I called it a night. Miss Melanie told me earlier that she wanted me to commence writing on Saturday at 7 a.m., so I didn't get all the sleep I needed. But sure enough I sat at my writing desk, on my wooden chair and in my school uniform at 7 a.m. - while she surely still slept in her comfy bed. I certainly liked the contrast. But the amount of writing that followed not so much.

Again it was midnight but at least I was done. I have to say that it's an interesting feeling having a Wikipedia article on paper "for real". And since I like astronomy it was also nice to learn some new facts. Though, when you have to copy Wikipedia, you realize how bloated these articles are. It surely could be a third shorter and still include the same information.

Anyway, here's the final result:

Hope you all had a nice weekend, too. :-)

Forget the 24 hours of Le Mans. I had the 21 hours of Drudging For Miss Melanie

Dear readers,

just like the endurance racers in Le Mans I had to prove my endurance this weekend once more.

I woke up on Saturday morning to a message from Miss Melanie, saying "I want you to write the line 'Das Wochenende bedeutet nur für Miss Melanie Entspannung. Für mich bedeutet es zusätzliche Arbeit, die ich zu ihrem Spaß zu erledigen habe.' ['The weekend means relaxation only for Miss Melanie. For me it means additional work that I have to carry out for her enjoyment.'] You may write this 500 times until Monday morning ... Have fun".

We chatted for a bit, and sure enough she even increased the amount of lines to 555 as this was a "nicer number".

So I began writing at around 10 a.m., if I remember correctly, and soon realized that this took me waaaay longer than expected. I estimated about 12 hours to write but it soon dawned on me that it would be much more. Only slowly did I make my way through the pile of lines that was handed to me.

By the time I got here it was 10:30 p.m. - so much for my 12 hour estimate. And I pretty much wrote the entire time except for a 20 minute break that Miss Melanie granted me after 200 lines. I hit the bed and continued on Sunday morning at 8 a.m. Not with a lot of motivation, as you can guess. But what choice did I have?

Shortly before 3 p.m. I was done in every sense of the word. Here's the complete work:

But don't think I was actually done for the day. I chatted a bit with Miss Melanie and she asked if I was interested in doing something for her this evening. Me, still being in some kind of sub-mode, couldn't say no, so she tried something new (at least new for me). Some of you may know the software tool "Grounded". Basically it gives you a grey computer screen and every now and then a pop up randomly ... pops up and tells you to hit either button A, B or C within a few seconds. It's mind-numbingly boring. And a good way to waste your time, which was Miss Melanie's purpose.

So... about 19 hours of writing and 2 hours being Grounded. What a nice weekend. For Miss Melanie.

And I kinda liked it.
