Dear readers,
just like the endurance racers in Le Mans I had to prove my endurance this weekend once more.
I woke up on Saturday morning to a message from Miss Melanie, saying "I want you to write the line 'Das Wochenende bedeutet nur für Miss Melanie Entspannung. Für mich bedeutet es
zusätzliche Arbeit, die ich zu ihrem Spaß zu erledigen habe.' ['The weekend means relaxation only for Miss Melanie. For me it means additional work that I have to carry out for her enjoyment.'] You may write this 500 times until Monday morning ... Have fun".
We chatted for a bit, and sure enough she even increased the amount of lines to 555 as this was a "nicer number".
So I began writing at around 10 a.m., if I remember correctly, and soon realized that this took me waaaay longer than expected. I estimated about 12 hours to write but it soon dawned on me that it would be much more. Only slowly did I make my way through the pile of lines that was handed to me.
By the time I got here it was 10:30 p.m. - so much for my 12 hour estimate. And I pretty much wrote the entire time except for a 20 minute break that Miss Melanie granted me after 200 lines. I hit the bed and continued on Sunday morning at 8 a.m. Not with a lot of motivation, as you can guess. But what choice did I have?
Shortly before 3 p.m. I was done in every sense of the word. Here's the complete work:
But don't think I was actually done for the day. I chatted a bit with Miss Melanie and she asked if I was interested in doing something for her this evening. Me, still being in some kind of sub-mode, couldn't say no, so she tried something new (at least new for me). Some of you may know the software tool "Grounded". Basically it gives you a grey computer screen and every now and then a pop up randomly ... pops up and tells you to hit either button A, B or C within a few seconds. It's mind-numbingly boring. And a good way to waste your time, which was Miss Melanie's purpose.
So... about 19 hours of writing and 2 hours being Grounded. What a nice weekend. For Miss Melanie.
And I kinda liked it.
Cornelia
could you send us a link to the grounded software?
ReplyDeleteThat's a bit difficult if you stay anonymous.
DeleteNot sure what my identity has to do with that but there you go. Now will you tell us?
ReplyDeleteTom
Well I thought you'd tell me your e-mail address so that I can send it to you. ;-)
DeleteI've downloaded it here https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/fondofwriting/files/2.%20Grounded/
but you need to be a group member, if you aren't already

Oh and I was actuly at Le mans and 21 hours is about as long as the Porsche 919 lasted so you did well☺
ReplyDeleteWow Cornelia, that was a big one!
ReplyDeleteDo you write on both sides of each page?
And do you have to discard both sides when you make a mistake?
Please can you let us know a link? I am very interested in all this. I must admit never thought about it before and very interested in seeing how it works. The thought of my free time being taken away for a grey screen and a number is scary and thrilling.
ReplyDeleteI would love to set lines and take away the free time of those who deserve punishment!
ReplyDeleteDear Cornelia, i like your blog. But as your last entry is already a little bit older. Therefore i hope that you are ok, even if you are not writing at the moment.
